WFA Football Week 6 Power Rankings and Recap
The Central Cal War Angels are 5-0 and enter the Top 5 this week
The Women’s Football Alliance competition is heating up as we quickly approach the end of the season. Week six was highlighted by some impressive wins from the top teams in the league but we also had a few surprises. Most of our MyWSports Top Ten were in action this past weekend with 26 games on the schedule. In Division 1 it looks like its going to be a race to the finish with some epic games scheduled in the remaining four weeks. Division 2 and 3 are still up for grabs, but would you expect anything less in the primer tackle football league?
Around the League
As we past the halfway point in the season, the games become that much more important for the contenders in each division. The Boston Renegades put together an incredible defensive effort against the visiting D.C Divas to earn a 26-0 victory in Boston. In a bit of a shocker, the New York Sharks pulled off a 9-7 win over the visiting Division 1, Cleveland Fusion. The Sharks behind Karen Mulligan on offense and Nhandi Brown on defense have strung together three straight wins to improve to 4-2.
In Division 2, a battle of the Phoenix took place as Atlanta visited Carolina in a battle of undefeated teams. The Carolina Phoenix shutdown Ronkia Toombs as best they could and took down Atlanta in a shootout 44-30. The Mile High Blaze continued their dominance this season improving to 6-0 and having outscored their opponents 246-0.
Finally in Division 3, the Cincinnati Sizzle got back to their winning ways with a 44-0 shutout of the Music City Mizfits.
In our MyWSports Game of the Week, the #3 Chicago Force dismantled the #5 Minnesota Vixen 53-0. The Force scored on every offensive possession in the first half and building a 39-0 lead before halftime. Cassey Brick exploded on for 285 total yards on offense while Kristy Moran also ran for two TD's to help propel the Chicago offense throughout the game. The defense held a very potent offense in check throughout the night. Chicago remains unbeaten on the year.
The MyWSports Player of the Week goes to Cassey Brick of the Chicago Force. On Saturday Brick started the game against the Vixen with a 79 yard kickoff return to set the tone, but she wasn't done. Throughout the contest, Brick accumulated 88 yards rushing, 60 yards receiving and also added a 58 yard punt return. All in all Brick finished the game with 285 yards and four touchdowns.
The MyWSports Game of the Week to Watch: Pittsburgh Passion (5-0) vs. Boston Renegades (4-0).
We have ourselves a primetime matchup in Beantown this Saturday night, with two historic teams renewing an old rivalry in week seven. The Pittsburgh Passion come into the game with the seventh best offense in the WFA. Pittsburgh's offense boast a top ten passing and rushing attack in the league. Janice Masters has 10 touchdowns on 49 completions this season and has been by far one of the most accurate Quarterbacks in the league. On the opposite end the Renegades bring in an experienced defense and key components back on offense. Defensively, Boston has only given up 47 points in four games this season and has created a bunch of turnovers on opposing teams. The offense seems to be back under the control of veteran leader, Allison Cahill who has thrown for over 700 yards and nine touchdowns. Boston has to be careful on their run defense, Ashley O'Neil is having a great year with 461 yards rushing through five games. However, Pittsburgh's defense will have to keep an eye on Cahill, she can throw but she also isn't afraid to run the ball, giving Boston a versatile backfield as well. This game could have some fireworks so get your updates with us on Twitter.
