WFA Football Week 4 Power Rankings and Recap
The Dallas Elite are 3-0 on the young season
Week four in the Women’s Football Alliance was one for the history books! Most of our MyWSports Top Ten were in action and playing in very meaningful games early in the season. Week four showcased multiple rivalry games from Boston and DC to Kansas City and St. Louis and even a west coast classic between Central Cal and Pacific.
Around the League
The Baltimore Nighthawks continued to struggle against a bigger and tougher Philadelphia Phantomz team, falling 52-7. The New York Sharks rolled over Keystone Assault 54-14. The Montreal Blitz hosted the Maine Mayhem and showed the new team what an offensive powerhouse looks like, winning 49-14. The Battle for Missouri was won by the St. Louis Slam in their convincing 34-6 victory over the Kansas City Titans. In an all Texas affair, the Austin Outlaws knocked off the Houston Power 21-20 and the Dallas Elite blanked the Arlington Impact 59-0. On the West Coast, the Seattle Majestics remained undefeated shutting out the Tacoma Trauma 40-0 and the Central Cal War Angels defeated the Pacific Warriors in a thrilling 28-19 game.
In our MyWSports Game of the Week, the #2 Boston Renegades drove south to take on the D.C Divas who almost one year before broke the hearts of the Renegades in a thrilling game that saw the Divas throw a go ahead touchdown with :17 seconds remaining. If it is possible, this year’s game was even more amazing! Allison Cahill and Emily Beinecke connected on two touchdown passes for the Renegades and Whitney Simms rushed for two touchdowns for the Divas leading to a deadlocked game, 13-13, at halftime. In the second half, Adrienne Smith returned a punt for a touchdown to give Boston a 20-13 lead but with just two minutes remaining, Kentrina Wilson caught a touchdown pass from Amanda Congialdi to tie the game at 20-20.
Using the NCAA football rules of overtime, each team had an opportunity to possess the ball from the opposing team’s 25 yard line. The Renegades’ Whitney Zelee punched home a touchdown to give Boston a six point lead, however on the extra point, the ball sailed over the holder’s hands and the Divas returned the fumble for two points. Down by 4 points, the Divas had their chance to win if they could score a touchdown on their drive. The Divas converted on a 4th and 2 and drove the ball to the Renegades six yard line. However with a second 4th down conversion, it was the league’s best defense that would win the game when Vicky Eddy of the Renegades stuffed running back Okiima Pickett for a loss, securing Boston’s 26-22 overtime victory.
The MyWSports Player of the Week goes to Emily Beinecke with her 96 yard and two touchdown performance in the Boston Renegades win over the two time reigning WFA Champion, D.C Divas.
The MyWSports Game of the Week to Watch: The WFA is very strong this year and choosing one game to highlight has been increasingly difficult this year. Across the country, there are strong teams and we have the pleasure of seeing more great head to head battles than any previous year. This week is no different, there will be many games that MyWSports will be keeping an eye on, but our MyWSports Game of the Week to Watch in week 5 is the Central Cal War Angels taking on the San Diego Surge. Two undefeated teams, going toe to toe. Both teams averaging more than 40 points per game and only allowing a little more than 12 points to their opponents.
