WFA Football Week One Power Rankings

Back to Back Champions, D.C Divas earn week one victory over Philadelphia.

It’s FINALLY time for some football! The Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) got underway this past weekend with 29 games on the schedule. With numerous new teams being added to the WFA, this year will definitely be full of great games and great players from all over the country. The addition of some teams has already given us some early season offensive explosions and shows that many new teams will immediately make a huge impact on the WFA.

In our MyWSports Game of the Week, the #1 DC Divas traveled north to take on the Philadelphia Phantomz. The Phantomz had a solid 2016 campaign, making it to the semifinals of Tier II before falling to the Tampa Bay Inferno. The Divas repeated as Tier I champions, defeating the Dallas Elite for the second straight year. The Divas got on the board first with a 13 yard touchdown pass from Quarterback Amanda Congialdi to Kentrina Wilson. The Phantomz would take a lead in the first quarter, with a 17 yard touchdown run by Satoria Bell and the 2 point conversion. However, that was the last time the Phantomz would lead. The Divas would get 2 more touchdowns from Congialdi to Wilson and a touchdown run from Christiana Burton. The Divas would play their typical great defense, forcing five turnovers from the Phantomz.

The top ten is going to very fluid this year with even more teams involved. The first week is always tough to predict who returned the same talent, who gained more talent, and who lost talent to retirement. The Divas played a good Philadelphia team and proved they’re still a force. Blowouts by Dallas, Kansas City, Minnesota and Portland round out the top 5, but much more will be learned in the coming weeks.

The MyWSports Player of the Week goes to the combination of Amanda Congialdi and Kentrina Wilson for their 3 touchdown performance against Philadelphia.

The MyWSports Game of the Week to Watch: Week 2 features 31 games and many great matchups, but the game that peaks the most interest is the Baltimore Nighthawks heading to play the Pittsburgh Passion. The Passion came to the WFA in 2016 and had a good season while playing a very demanding schedule. The Nighthawks are only one game into their WFA history, but a 59-19 blowout was an offensive spectacle and this game will come down to the Nighthawks offensive versus the Passion stingy defense.
