And Then There Were Two... 2017 NCAA Basketball Final Four Recap

Morgan William swarmed by teammates after hitting buzzer beater to beat UConn in Final Four

Expect the unexpected.

In one of the greatest games in college basketball history, Mississippi State pulled off one of the biggest upsets of all time. Friday night, riding a 111-game winning streak and two wins aways from a fifth straight national title, Connecticut was handed a stunning, 66-64, overtime defeat.

Morgan William, coming off a 41 point performance against Baylor in the elite eight, hit a 15-foot jumper to give UConn its first loss in 865 days. The 5'5 guard has come alive during the national tournament and doesn't shy away from the spotlight.

"I live for moments like this," William said. "UConn, they're an incredible team. For me to make that shot against them, it's unbelievable. I'm still in shock right now. I wanted to take the shot. I wanted to take the shot and I made it."

The game ended on quite the sequence in overtime. Mississippi State led 64-62 and forced Connecticut to miss the shot. On the play, Katie Lou Samuelson was hit in the face and the Bulldogs were assessed a flagrant one foul. UConn tied the game on free throws and had possession to win the game. Saniya Chong cut to the bucket with under 15 seconds left and lost control of the ball, turning it over to Mississippi State.

Morgan William Game Winning Shot

"I don't have to play them 100 times. Only have to beat them once" Said Bulldogs head coach, Vic Schaefer.

After William hit her game winning shot as time expired, the Bulldogs bench ran onto the court, right in front of the media desk, and piled on William. Schaefer after the win could be seen picking up William and displayed the powerful relationship between a player and coach.

Mississippi State improves to 34-4 on the season and will play Southeastern Conference (SEC) foe, South Carolina in the national championship on Sunday.

South Carolina Storms Back in Second Half

A'ja Wilson leads second half comeback to lead South Carolina to national championship

The South Carolina Gamecocks are heading to the national championship after rallying from a halftime deficit to defeat Stanford, 62-53 in the final four. A'ja Wilson scored 13 second half points to help lead the comeback for South Carolina.

In the first quarter both teams exchanged buckets but neither could pull away. The Gamecocks held a 14-12 lead after 10 minutes of play but the Cardinal had the momentum going into the second quarter.

Erica McCall and Brittany McPhee led the Stanford run in the second, combining for nine points on a 17-6 run. The Cardinal defense showed up big holding the Gamecocks to only six points in the quarter.

Dawn Staley must've had some choice words for her players after their first half performance because South Carolina came out firing on all cylinders in the third quarter. Allisha Gray and Bianca Cuevas-Moore picked up the pace and controlled the tempo throughout the third. After 30 minutes of play, South Carolina held a four point lead.

In the fourth quarter the Cardinal would make a run to bring the game within three with 2:10 remaining in regulation. However, Tyasha Harris hit some clutch buckets late to seal the win for the Gamecocks.

Wilson finished the game with 13 points and 19 rebounds in 37 minutes of game action. Gray added 18 points and 8 rebounds. South Carolina will meet Mississippi State in the national championship.
