The New York Riveters Snap Boston's 27 Game Win Streak


NEWARK, NJ - The Boston Pride entered the last regular season game against rival New York with an undefeated season on the line. For the third time in four games, Boston found themselves trailing quickly in the match and had to make up some ground. In an epic battle at the Barnabas Health Hockey House, the New York Riveters handed the Pride their first loss in 28 games.

In their last meeting, New York held a 3-1 lead only to see it vanquish after a Pride comeback in the third Boston remained unbeaten. The Pride were 27-0 since January 3, 2016 when they loss to Buffalo.

Janine Weber and Milica McMillen scored just 20 seconds apart in the second period to give New York a 2-0 lead. Late in the second, Brianna Decker and Hilary Knight combined to cut the deficit to one on the Decker goal.

In the third period, Boston came out of the gate firing on all cylinders. Meghan Duggan scored just two minutes into the period and equalized the game for the Pride. Moments later, Madison Packer scored a power play goal to give New York the lead with 15 minutes remaining.

Boston could not find the equalizer and New York spoiled Boston's bid at a perfect season. Riveters net minder, Katie Fitzgerald made 44 saves in the effort, keeping a potent Boston offense to only two goals.
