NCAA Ice Hockey Frozen Four Set for St. Charles
2016 Frozen Four Semifinals Boston College vs. Clarkson
After 26 weeks of hockey it all comes down to this final weekend at the Family Arena, in St. Charles Missouri. The four remaining teams earned bids this past weekend with wins in the NCAA Quarterfinals on their home campus'. We will see four familiar teams in the final two games, as Clarkson and Minnesota will battle in one semi final and Boston College and Wisconsin will face off in the other.
How It Happened:
#1 Wisconsin Def. Robert Morris 7-0
Robert Morris, making their first ever NCAA Tournament were dealt a tough first round matchup against the #1 team in the land the Wisconsin Badgers. UW extended their unbeaten run to 21 games with a seven goal outburst against the CHA champions. Six different Badgers scored led by Emily Clark who notched two goals in the win. It is the 10th Frozen Four appearance and fourth consecutive by Wisconsin.
#2 Clarkson Def. Cornell 3-1
Cayley Mercer is a Top-3 Finalist for the Patty Kaz award and Cornell knew going in they would have to shut her down in order to have a chance. Well the key about Clarkson's success this season is the ability to have other players step up. Loren Gabel did just that netting a hat trick to send Clarkson to it's third Frozen Four in four years.
Minnesota Def. #3 Minnesota Duluth 1-0
The defending champions are back in the Frozen Four after an thrilling 1-0 victory over rival Minnesota Duluth. Patti Marshall scored a goal in the third and Sidney Peters did the rest in net for Minnesota to send the program to its sixth straight Frozen Four. In it's 13th appearance overall the Gophers will go for title number eight and their third consecutive.
#4 Boston College Def. St. Lawrence 6-0
The national runner-up from a year ago, Boston College saw a class of six seniors depart, all of whom are playing or played in the NWHL or CWHL. After going through three overtimes in the Hockey tournament Boston College routed St. Lawrence 6-0 en route to the Eagles seventh appearance in the Frozen Four. Coach Katie King Crowley has this B.C team motivated to play for a national title.
