Northford, CT - The Boston Pride erased a three goal deficit in the second period to storm back and hand the Connecticut Whale yet another heartbreaking loss. The Whale jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead after 20 minutes of play in the first period and quickly made it 4-1 in the second period. Former Boston Pride player, Zoe Hickel, scored just over five minutes into the frame to give Connecticut the lead.
The Whale coming off a tough loss against the New York Riveters, in which they surrendered two four goal leads to lose in overtime, found themselves again ahead by a comfy margin. The Pride with a record 24 game win streak on the line buckled down and made a move that would pay off.
Brittany Ott gave up three goals in 15:24 of game time in the first and was pulled for Lauren Slebodnick. Although Sledbodnick gave up the goal to Hickel early in the second, it would be the last goal she gave up on the night. Boston used their special teams to propel the comeback scoring two shorthanded goals and holding the Whale to just 1-7 on the power play.
Down 4-1, Jordan Smelker started the scoring for the Pride in the second period to bring Boston within two. Just 40 seconds later, Hilary Knight took a shorthanded bid deep in the Whale zone and snuck it past Shenae Lundberg to make it a one goal game. While on another penalty kill, Gigi Marvin benefited from a Knight and Brianna Decker combo to even the game at four a piece. Boston capped off the run scoring its fifth goal in less than four minutes to take the lead.
The Pride outshot Connecticut 50-22 and 18-8 in the second period. The win improves Bostons to 14-0-0 and the win streak stands at 25 straight games while Connecticut drops to 4-11-1 on the season and will play Buffalo on Sunday.
