Boston, MA - The Boston Pride have not suffered defeat since January of last year, the team extended their historic win streak to 23 consecutive games after a 5-2 victory over the Connecticut Whale. Meghan Duggan scored the go-ahead goal in the third and added some insurance a little bit later with her second of the game and fifth goal for the Pride.
Alex Carpenter started the scoring late in the first, she buried home a Duggan pass that gave Boston a 1-0 lead. However, the lead was short lived as former Boston College teammate, Haley Skarupa equalized the game just a minute later for the Whale. After 20 minutes of play both teams were level at 1-1.
Boston and Connecticut battled in the second period, with the Whale controlling the moment most of the frame. The pressure finally paid off for Connecticut when Micaela Long gave the Whale a 2-1 lead with under two minutes to play before intermission.
The Pride came out guns blazing in the third period. Just three minutes into the third, Kacey Bellamy leveled the game at two on a great assist by Lexi Bender. About two minutes later, Duggan scored her first of the game to give Boston their first lead since the first period. The Pride did not look back, Brianna Decker added a goal midway through the final frame and Duggan added her second to make the final 5-2.
Brittany Ott made 20 saves on 22 shots to keep the Pride ahead and extend the win streak to 23 consecutive games. The NWHL will be on break this weekend for the NWHL All star game in Pittsburgh, PA.
