Elena Delle Donne Traded to Washington Mystics

On Monday, multiple sources reported the Chicago Sky's, Elena Delle Donne has been traded to the Washington Mystics on a busy day in the league. First reported by The New York Times, Delle Donne will head to Washington for All-Star center, Stefanie Dolson; last years seventh overall pick in the WNBA Draft, Kahleah Copper and the second overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft.

The 2015 WNBA MVP announced in December that she wanted to move on from playing in Chicago and also pondered the thought of sitting out until a trade was made. This is a re-occurring problem from the Sky, a few years ago Silva Fowles forced Chicago to trade her away after sitting out a few games.

The move makes a ton of sense for Delle Donne, who has struggled with Lyme Disease since 2008. Which recently forced her to forgo her basketball season in China to return to the U.S to take care of her health. She also has an older sister who struggles with cerebral palsy and their relationship has been well documented. Playing in Washington would allow Elena to be closer to home and not to mention a growing talent base with the Mystics.

Earlier Monday, the Mystics sent Bria Hartley and Kia Vaughn to the New York Liberty as part of a three team deal for the Seattle Storms 6th and 18th picks to set up the deal. The Storm received center Carolyn Swords and Washington's 15th pick in the draft.

Free agency doesn't officially begin until Wednesday but already teams are making moves in whats been called the most anticipated free agency in WNBA history.
