Northford, CT - The Boston Pride scored seven unanswered goals and improved their win streak to 22 consecutive with an 8-4 victory over the Connecticut Whale on Friday night. Meghan Duggan notched a hat trick while Brittany Ott stopped 30 shots in net for Boston.
Duggan started the scoring eight minutes into the first period on a great assist from line mate, Alex Carpenter. The two have been an unstoppable force on the season, adding to an already dominating offense. The two connected again with under a minute left in the frame, this time Carpenter benefitted from a Duggan assist.
In the second period, Duggan picked up right where she left off scoring just 18 seconds into the frame. Just like that the Pride held a 3-0 over Connecticut. Jillian Dempsey has been on a tare in the New Year, she added to her point streak when scored to make it 4-0. Brianna Decker and Gigi Marvin added late second period scores to give the Pride a 6-0 lead going into the second intermission.
Six goals were scored in the third, Connecticut made a late surge but the comeback was a little too late. Haley Skarupa continued her impressive rookie campaign with a hat trick in the third period and Kelli Stack added the fourth goal for the Whale but a Decker goal and Duggan’s third put the game away early in the third.
Ott was phenomenal throughout the game, the third period became a bit of a shootout but prior to the frame the Pride goaltender made 19 saves on 19 shots.
Boston increases their first place lead with the win and are now 11-0-0 on the season. Connecticut will be able to right the ship when they play New York on Sunday.
