Meghan Duggan Scores Late, Pride Extend Win Streak

Boston continues win streak with 2-1 win over New York (Troy Parla/NWHL)

NEWARK, NJ - The Boston Pride have not lost a game in over a calendar year and continued to dominate in the NWHL with a 2-1 victory over the New York Riveters on Friday night. The Pride have won 21 consecutive games since their last loss on January 3, 2016 and are currently 10-0-0 this season.

Boston's undefeated record was in jeopardy in a close contest again the Riveters but the team found a way to escape Newark with a win. New York came out firing on all cylinders, outshooting Boston 13-7 in the first period. The Pride did themselves no justice on offense, taking three penalties in the frame keeping them shorthanded for six minutes.

Pride coach Bobby Jay had some strong words for his team in the first intermission and Boston came out in the second period ready to respond. Hilary Knight, playing in her second game back from injury, found the back of the net for the third time this season. Boston held on to the lead for the remainder of the second, while holding New York to only four shots on goal in the frame.

In the third, Boston continued to fire shots on Katie Fitzgerald but the rookie goaltender answered with spectacular saves between the pipes for New York. The Riveters defense played a vital role in blocking shots throughout the game. With under five minutes in regulation and on the power play, Amanda Kessel found Janine Weber who buried home the equalizer for the Riveters.

Late in the period, two new additions to the Pride this season, rookie Alex Carpenter and free agent pick up Meghan Duggan connected for the go-ahead goal.

Lauren Slebodnick got the start ahead of Brittany Ott and made 21 saves on 22 chances.
