CWHL Weekend Wrap Up: Brampton and Calgary Earn Sweeps

BRAMPTON - WHO!?! JESS JONES! WHO!?! JESS JONES!
The Brampton Thunder traveled down to Boston to take on the Blades this weekend and came away with a weekend sweep over the struggling Boston Blades. The Thunder had a great weekend from Jess Jones offensively, but an even better performance but their two net minders.
In game one, Brampton scored four goals in the first period and converted on two of three power play opportunities to hand the Blades a 8-0 loss. Jones scored three goals in the game for the hat trick and assisted on two scores in the contest. The Brampton forward leads the CWHL in goals with 15 and is first in points with 31. Liz Knox got her fifth win of the season and earned her fourth shutout making 16 saves against the Blades.
In game two, the Thunder fired 50 shots on Boston goaltender, Lauren Dahm but did not match their goal total from the night before. After a scoreless first period, Brampton picked up right where they left off and earned a 4-0 victory over the Blades. Erica Howe stopped 25 shots and kept Boston off the scoresheet for the second consecutive game. The win was the fourth of the season for Howe and her first shutout this season. Four different players scored to lead Brampton into third place following the weekend sweep.

TORONTO - The Calgary Inferno are rolling and forewarning to the other teams in the CWHL... WATCH OUT. The defending Clarkson Cup champions scored nine goals against Toronto en route to a weekend sweep of the Furies. Seven different players tallied a goal in the match up and both Inferno goaltenders earned wins.
In game one, Natalie Spooner put Toronto ahead in the first period with her 11th goal on the year. The lead was short lived as Meaghan Mikkelson responded for Calgary to level the game at one and less than three minutes later gave the Inferno a 2-1 lead. After a scoreless second period Calgary added two more in the third for a 4-1 win over Toronto. Genevieve Lacasse saved 26 shots on 27 chances and earned her seventh win in an Inferno uniform.
In game two, the Inferno scored 33 seconds into the match up when Brianne Jenner connected with Blayre Turnbull to give Calgary a 1-0 lead. The pressure continued throughout, Toronto could not get their offense going and the Inferno capitalized. Calgary outshot Toronto 33-18 and got 18 big saves from Emerance Maschmeyer to improve her rookie record to 4-3-0. The Inferno have already clinched a playoff spot and increase their lead in the standings by six points over Les Canadiennes de Montreal.
