Top Seeds Fall in Opening Rounds of 2017 Australian Open
#3 Agnieszka Radwanska falls in straight sets to Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in 2nd Round
MELBOURNE, AUS - After seven upsets in round one of the Australian Open, round two did not disappoint with seven more top seeded players going home early. Shelby Rogers headlined round one with her win over #4 Simona Halep, but was quickly dismissed by Australian, Ashleigh Barty in the second round.
Veteran Mirjana Lucic-Baroni turned back the clock in her second round match against #3 Agnieszka Radwanska to pull off one of the biggest upsets of her career.
Serena Williams defeated Lucie Safarova in straight sets on Rod Laver Arena, joining sister Venus Williams in the third round. Elsewhere, Daria Gavrilova made it two Australian women in the third round, after defeating Ana Konjuh in three sets, joining Ashleigh Barty.
