Rebecca Johnston Propels Canada to Series Sweep of USA

Canada takes two game series against USA

SARINA - Marie-Philip Poulin!! If you haven't heard the name yet be sure to remember it for some time to come. USA and Canada have had a long standing rivalry on the ice, and when it comes to hockey there is a plethora of moments in history that will show the reasons why. Poulin, who comes up clutch every time against USA, did it again 52 seconds into overtime to take a series sweep of the Americans.

For the second consecutive game, Canada found themselves in a deficit only to comeback and win just as they did in game one. Rebecca Johnston started the scoring for Canada to give the team a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the contest. Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson equalized the game late in the first off a great assist from Emily Pfalzer.

In the second period, Hilary Knight added her second goal of the series and gave USA a 2-1 lead. The American could not convert on the power play and after taking the lead were outplayed by the Canadians. Late in the third, still trailing 2-1, Canada emptied the net and sent out the extra attacker. With 24 second left in regulation, Jennifer Wakefield was on the receiving end of a Poulin and Natalie Spooner connection and buried it to level the game at 2-2.

Then the rest was history, as 52 seconds into overtime Poulin notched the game winning goal against USA. Rebecca Johnston was given the Most Valuable Player award with her four goals leading the team in points and only second to USA's Lamoureux-Davidson who finished with five.
