G1: Montreal 4-3 OT

G2: Brampton 3-2 OT

MONTREAL - Les Canadiennes were ready to play against the Brampton Thunder this weekend. They just weren't ready to play two back-to-back overtime games. After a comeback overtime win on Saturday in game one, Les Canadiennes fell in game two of the series, again in overtime, to the Thunder.

Saturday, Montreal faced a early third period deficit, trailing Brampton 3-2 following a Jess Jones goal to put the Thunder ahead. Les Canadiennes took control after the score, outshooting the Thunder 15-5 in the frame. Caroline Ouellette got Montreal back in the contest with a goal midway through the third to even the score at three. Liz Knox made some huge saves for Brampton down the stretch to force overtime in Montreal.

In overtime, Jones was given a two minute penalty for slashing, giving Les Canadiennes a power play opportunity. With seconds remaining, Ouellette received a nice pass from Marie-Philip Poulin and found the back of the net for the game winner. Brampton scored all three goals on the power play and finished the night 3-4 on the advantage. Montreal dominated the shot count in the last three periods, 31-13.

Sunday, Brampton found themselves facing the same deficit as Montreal the day before, trailing by a goal early in the third period. Katia Clement-Heydra gave Les Canadiennes a 2-1 lead two minutes into the third period. Both teams battled back and forth until Brampton earned a power play where Jenna McParland scored her second goal of the season to equalize the contest.

The last six minuted went scoreless, which meant more free hockey in Montreal. The Thunder kept Montreal in check in overtime keeping them off the shot sheet in the period.

Sarah Lefort and Lauriane Rougeau were assessed penalties a minute apart in OT giving Brampton the advantage. The Thunder would not let this game slip, Jamie Lee Rattray converted on a pass from Laura Fortino to steal a overtime win over Les Canadiennes.

Erica Howe got the start in net for Brampton and made 26 saves on the afternoon.

Calgary Impressive in Sweep of Boston

Inferno take control of first place with weekend sweep of Boston Blades (@InfernoCWHL/Twitter)

G1: Calgary 5-1

G2: Calgary 9-2

CALGARY - The defending Clarkson Cup champions are on a roll to start this season and don't look to be slowing down anytime soon. The Inferno took the weekend series against the Boston Blades by a combined score of 14-3. A few weeks ago these two teams met in Boston and had a similar result with Calgary winning both games, 8-0 and 6-3.

Saturday night, Boston played a great defensive first period but spent too much time in their own zone. Iya Gavrilova started the scoring with her third goal of the season with just over two minutes left in the first period to give Calgary a 1-0 lead.

The Inferno picked up on that momentum as the second period started, Blayre Turnbull doubled the lead for Calgary 90 seconds into the period off a great assist by Bailey Bram. Five minutes later Rebecca Johnston scored her second of the season to give the Inferno a 3-0 lead. Through two periods the defending champs held a 33-9 shot lead over the Blades.

Boston rookie, Meghan Grieves gave Blades fans some life late in the second when she scored her first professional goal to cut the lead to 3-1 before the end of the second period. The third was all Calgary as the Inferno held Boston to just two shots in the frame and scored two goals to take game one 5-1.

Genevieve Lacasse, the former Blades goaltender, made her first start against Boston since signing with Calgary this past off season. She made 10 saves on 11 shots while her counterpart, Lauren Dahm was called upon to make 47 saves on 52 shots.

On Sunday, Calgary continued its dominance over Boston with a 9-2 win over the Blades. Boston in their last three series have given up, 14 goals to Calgary, 17 goals to Montreal and 14 goals to Calgary again. Combined the Blades have only scored 8 goals in that span.

In a span of 10 minutes in the first period, Boston allowed three goals to go into the second period facing a tough 3-0 deficit. The second did not get any better as Calgary got quite the performance from Brianne Jenner. After having two assist following the first, Jenner added a hat trick in the second period, scoring three of the Infernos five goals, for a total of five points on the night. Blayre Tunbull added a third period goal to get Calgary to nine goals on the afternoon.

Grieves and Nicole Giannino scored in the second period for Boston's scores. Delayne Brian picked up her third win against Boston on the season while Jetta Rackleff took the loss for Boston.
