BOSTON - After a few weeks off for the Four Nations Cup, hockey returned to Boston when the Connecticut Whale visited the Boston Pride on Saturday night. Hilary Knight made her season debut after missing the start of the season due to a injury and picked up right where she left off last season.
Boston took a 1-0 lead in the first when 20 seconds into a power play, Meghan Duggan sent a pass to Blake Bolden who fired one from the high slot to put the Pride ahead. Both goaltenders were phenomenal on the night, Brittany Ott for Boston and Nicole Stock for Connecticut were up to the task.
In the second period both netminders saw their fair share of work and continued to keep the opposing team from scoring. After a scoreless period the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Pride but Connecticut wouldn't go down without a fight.
Four minutes into the third the deficit became greater when Jordan Smelker tipped in a shot from Kacey Bellamy to double to Pride lead. While the Whale continued to mount a comeback it was Ott in net who dominated this game. Connecticut put 26 shots on net and could not convert on any. Knight would add a third period goal to quiet the Whale supporters in attendance and improve the Pride to 5-0-0-0 on the season.
The Pride have not lost since last January where they fell to the Buffalo Beauts in overtime.
