Boston Pride Win Extends Streak to 15 In a Row

The Boston Pride earned a 5-1 win on Saturday night against the New York Riveters to extend their winning streak to 15 straight games since last suffering a loss. Boston has not lost a game since January 3, 2016 when they suffered an overtime loss to the Buffalo Beauts.
New York, much improved this off-season, were still missing Amanda Kessel and have yet to figure out their goaltending situation. However that did not stop them from bringing it to the Pride in this matchup at Warrior Ice Arena in Boston.
Last season, the Riveters were the only team to defeat the Pride twice on the season, handing Boston back-to-back losses in late November of last season. A boost of confidence for Riveters fans was seeing forward Janine Weber return to the ice, after missing some time due to an injury.
In the first period the New York defense played their best game of the season, continuously disrupting the passing lanes for Boston. Sojung Shin got the start for the Riveters and turned away 17 shots in the period including a big save while the Pride were on a power play.
Pride goaltender Lauren Slebodnick made her season debut, after missing most of last season due to an injury and only faced four shots in the period. One of which would count for a Riveters goal on a great play by Weber to find Bray Ketchum in the slot to give New York a 1-0 late in the first.
However, the Pride really like the second period this season. The team came in scoring nine goals in the frame through the first three games, it would be no different in this contest. The Pride tied the game in the second when Zoe Hickel dangled through the Riveters defense and scored her first goal of the season. Hickel in the first four games looks much improved and more confident in her role with the team. She has been a huge presence with Hilary Knight still missing from the Pride lineup.
Boston's penalty kill unit went to work in the second period when Kacey Bellamy was sent to the box for a boarding penalty. During the kill, Alex Carpenter rifled one past Shin on a breakaway to give the Pride a 2-1 lead. Later in the second, Blake Bolden fired a shot from the the blue line and Amanda Pelkey got a piece of her stick on the puck redirecting it past Shin for a 3-1 advantage going into the third.
In the first four games this season, Boston has scored a total of 12 goals in the second period, the most in the league. The Pride added some insurance in the third period to seal the win.
Brianna Decker and Gigi Marvin both notched goals in the period to give Boston a 5-1 win over rival New York. Slebodnick minus that first period goal really shutdown the Riveters opportunities and was really excited following the win.
"I am just grateful for the opportunity to start, this was my first game back since injury and it was great to be out there and get the win." Slebodnick told MyWSports
