2016 WFA Championship Preview
Tier I – W Bowl
DC Divas vs Dallas Elite
Why the Divas will win: The Divas will have to shut down the Elite offense just like they did with Chicago and Boston this year. The Divas will have to put up at least 30 points, probably more, to win this game. The run game may be vital to get, and stay in control, to slow the Elite offense.
Why the Elite will win: In 7 of 10 games this year the Elite have scored 58 points or more. Their offense needs to be at its best to beat the Divas. They were slowed in the Conference Championship and only scored 34 points. They will also need to stop the Divas offense, we’ve see the Divas know how to win in a close shootout.
Prediction: Dallas 34, Divas 32
Tier II
St Louis Slam vs Tampa Bay Inferno
Why the Slam will win: The Slam defense has been incredible at the end of the season and it will have to be to beat the undefeated Inferno. The Slam are battle tested with their schedule this season, but a slow start like they had against Chicago could be disastrous.
Why the Inferno will win: They will have to continue to score the way they have all season. Two solid playoff wins has proven them to be worthy for the Tier II championship, but an early lead on the Slam could be the momentum they need to hold off the talented Slam offense.
Prediction: Tampa Bay 36, St Louis 20
Tier III
Acadiana Zydeco vs Richmond Black Widows
Why the Zydeco will win: Zydeco will have to score a lot to keep up with Richmond. In their 2 losses they were held under 30 points and the Arlington Impact scored 32 and 34 in the two games. Zydeco’s 5 wins came against 1 or 2 win teams, but they played close with a good Arlington team in their 2 losses.
Why the Black Widows will win: The same weak schedule argument can be made against the Black Widows as well. Their losses were against the DC Divas and the Philadelphia Phantomz, but none of those games were very close. The Black Widows also didn’t have a strong offensive performance against the Keystone Assault in the Semifinals, however their defense was great, holding opponents to just 26 points in their 6 wins. Defense will have to win this championship for the Black Widows.
Prediction: Acadiana 26, Richmond 14
