[endif]The United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) returned to action after a Holiday break this past Friday in Sudbury, Mass., where the hometown Boston Storm (4-2) played host to the Long Island Sound (5-1). In a thrilling contest the Sound took a 9-6 lead and looked well on their way to another victory. Boston took a timeout following the score to settle to defense and used a 4-0 rally late to hand the previously unbeaten Sound their first loss of the season. Kayla Treanor notched a hat trick in the game but it was local product Kristin Igoe who scored the game-winning goal with 2:25 remaining in the half.
After Kelly McPartland opened the scoring in the first, it became a battle between two Syracuse grads, Kayla Treanor and Halle Majorana. Long Island looked in control for most of the first half, Majorana scored twice and Long Island took a 4-3 lead heading into the half. Although the Sound dominated play, Boston always found a way back into it. At 6-6 in the second half, the Sound had gained some momentum and with under 20 minutes to play went on a huge 3-0 run to go ahead 9-6. Majarona and others had played really well for Long Island and found the lapses in the defense of the Storm. Following the score you could see the Sound be more confident and start controlling tempo.

The Storm called timeout and settled the defense, which had played well throughout the match. Following the timeout Boston would rally to bring the score to 9-9 with scores from Treanor, Kara Cannizzaro and Lauren Khan. Then with under three minutes to go, Kristin Igoe fired a shot just beyond 10 meters and found the back of the net. The defense would step up in the last few moments and force a turnover to let the offense close it out. Long Island Falls to 5-1 on the season while Boston improves to 4-2.
In other action the Baltimore Ride defeated the Philadelphia Force 14-5 behind a strong second half by the Ride. Following a two-hour delay the Force and Ride played in front of a massive crowd in West Chester. Philly remains winless on the season and while Baltimore keeps pace with Boston. UWLX returns to action this weekend July 15 and 16.
