MyWSports Summer Mix: A Collection of Pump-Up Picks from our Interviews
As our podcast guests quickly learn, we at MYWSports like to put athletes on the spot with our rapid fire questions. One of my personal favorite questions to ask is, “What is your go-to song to get the party started?” As a music enthusiast, I’m fascinated to learn the songs that get other people ready to enjoy a night with friends, focused on the next big game, or celebrate the latest victory. The following list is a compilation of the responses from players from the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), Women's Football Alliance (WFA), Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) and the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).
Janine Weber, who happens to play hockey in the greatest city in the world, enjoys Broadway Musicals. Here is a song from the 11 Tony Award-Winning musical "Hamilton" to get the good vibes flowing! Enjoy The Schuyler Sisters featuring Renée Elise Goldsberry, Phillipa Soo, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Leslie Odom, Jr., from the Original Cast.
As sports writers and former/casual athletes, we too enjoy a good pump-up song. MyWSports Founder, Luis Sanchez enjoys listening to “Where is the Love” by The Black Eyed Peas
NWHL Commissioner Dani Rylan likes to jam out to 80’s hits. The year Rylan was born, this Bon Jovi song was #1 for four weeks! Several years later, Rylan has gone from “Living on a Prayer” to living out a dream!
Isobel Cup Champion Blake Bolden shared that after every win, she and her teammates blast “My House” by Flo Rida. Pump this jam and dance like a member of the Isobel Cup Winning Boston Pride
Collette Smith, player-turned-coach of the New York Sharks likes to get hype with the help of Yonkers-native, DMX (shout out to the 914). All New Yorkers remember boppin’ to Ruff Ryders Anthem in the 90’s.
Senior Writer Kyle Wescott appreciates some good old Country music to get pumped before coaching a game or writing an article. Get in the zone with Jason Aldean, Eric Church and Luke Bryan and “This is The Only Way I Know”
The Jersey Girl Maya Hayes listens to “Work” by Rihanna feat. Drake before getting pumped for a game with Sky Blue FC
Sometimes you need a solid composition to listen to as you close your eyes and get ready to hit the field. Angela Baker of the Pittsburgh Passion uses “Time” by Hans Zimmer to get in the zone.
Sometimes, we borrow musical inspiration from fellow athletes. Allison Cahill and the Boston Renegades started listening to this track after catching wind that Tom Brady and the New England Patriots do the same. This version of “O Fortuna” has the English translation, check it out!
Mana Alison of the Carolina Phoenix likes to listen to Nelly “Heart of a Champion” before she takes to the field.
Sky Blue FC Head Coach Christy Holly noted that “Celtic Cry” from the Braveheart soundtrack is a song that always gets him going.
For All-Star MVP Kelley Steadman of the Buffalo Beauts, “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift always gets the party started!
As for me, Erica Ayala, Senior Writer for MyWSports, the song to get the party started, for any occasion, is PYT by Michael Joseph Jackson.
