IWFL Top 10 Power Rankings Week 9

The New York Sharks (6-0) Travel to Carolina Phoenix (6-0) this Saturday

IT’S WEEK 10!!!! The week a lot of fans, teams and players have been waiting for. The Independent Women’s Football League comes down to these final two weeks and week 10 will be the most crucial in playoff positioning for a majority of the top teams. This weekend we saw a limited amount of games with a few of the MyWSports top 10 involved in the action. The Utah Falconz continued to show why they are the #1 team in our rankings week in and week out. Utah put another 80 spot on the scoreboard this weekend defeating the Bakersfield Bombers 81-0. Minnesota Vixen are also on a roll and have had back to back games where they’ve scored 30+ while only allowing six points in those two games. The Austin Yellow Jackets remained undefeated this week with a win over the San Antonio Regulators. The Carson Bobcats continue to improve every week and are in line to finish the season undefeated with a win this week against the Phoenix Phantomz.

Week 10 brings some of the most exciting games of this season. You never know what can happen in rivalry games and we have a few this week that you may want to watch. The Baltimore Nighthawks (2-4) play host to the Washington Prodigy (3-3). Earlier this season the Prodigy earned a 14-0 win in Baltimore, can the Nighthawks get redemption? Another big matchup comes from the Midwest Conference, as the Madison Blaze (4-2) look to avenge a loss to rival and undefeated Minnesota Vixen (6-0). The Vixen have been hot all season and in our game of the week shocked the Blaze 21-0 on the road.

Other top teams are in action as well this week with the Utah Falconz going on the road to play the Nevada Storm. The Carson Bobcats welcome the Phoenix Phantomz this week and the Austin Yellow Jackets host the Houston Energy.

This week there will be some huge playoff implications on the line so check out MyWSports for the latest.

The MyWSports Player of the Week goes to Dom Ausbie of the Nebraska Stampede. Nebraska defeated the Iowa Crush 32-14 this past weekend. Ausbie through nine weeks of action has carried the ball 145 times for 870 yards. She is the first RB this season to reach double digit scores with a league leading 10 on the year. Only one other player has rushed for over 1000 yards so far this year, with a matchup against the Colorado Freeze this weekend, she may eclipse that 1000 yard mark.

The MyWSports Game of the Week is… did you think we would forget? The #2 ranked Carolina Phoenix (6-0) welcome in division foe, the #3 ranked New York Sharks (6-0). Both teams coming off a bye in week 9 have had this matchup circled will before the season started. In what has become an entertaining matchup year in and year out this week we get two of the best teams in the IWFL battling it out. Carolina led by Quarterback Ebony Montgomery has score 291 points this season and have only allowed 21 points. New York with a phenomenal defense of their own come in battle tested playing in contest much closer than the Phoenix. Led by Gabby Farrell New York has only allowed 47 points on defense while most of those came early on in the season against Montreal. Both teams have a playoff bye and division title in their sights who will come away with it on Saturday is anyones guess but it will be a matchup for the ages. Gabby Farrell (New York Sharks) on playing Carolina this weekend “The momentum we’ve been building all season has brought us this far. We are going in confident and everyone on my team is prepared to play our best game yet!”

Ebony Montgomery (Carolina Phoenix) on playing New York this weekend

“We look forward to playing the Sharks, The quality of their players and coaches makes them a great organization. They have a rich tradition and have had a ton of success. Their defense is solid. They know how to collapse the pocket and create turnovers. They are tough. Those ladies are battle tested. They know how to close out tight games. We know we have to be at our best to win this game. This is the time of year when the best teams separate themselves. Its going to be a physical and mental grind we all know that. Both teams want this win. Its going to come down to who executes the best. I know coach Harrigan is a great motivator and will have those ladies fired up. So it should be a great one.”
