Women's College World Series Set


The NCAA Softball field has come down to the final eight teams after weeks of compelling action these final eight travel to Oklahoma City for a chance to claim the 2016 national championship. We have seen upsets as the two time defending champs and #1 seed Florida were eliminated by Georgia. UCLA and LSU earning hard fought wins in three game sets that proved to be some amazing softball. Below are the Super Regionals recaps and a schedule of games for WCWS on June 2, 2016. TUNE IN... We Will Be!

#16 GEORGIA SWEEPS #1 FLORIDA GAINESVILLE, Fla. - A day after handing #1 Florida its first-ever loss in Super Regional opening action on Thursday night, Friday afternoon the #16 Georgia Bulldogs punched their ticket to the Women’s College World Series, upsetting the #1 seed Florida with a 3-2 walk-off win. Trailing 2-1 with two outs in the bottom seventh and a runner on, senior Kaylee Puailoa came in as a pinch hitter. After going down in the count 0-2, Puailoa hit a shot to dead-center field for the walkoff win. It’s the third time in program history that Georgia will make a WCWS appearance and first since 2010.

#8 FLORIDA STATE SWEEPS UTAH

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State 'Noles will be one of the final eight teams in the NCAA postseason for the second time in the last three years. The #8 seeded Seminoles defeated unseeded Utah by a score of 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to earn a sweep of Utah and advance to the 2016 Women’s College World Series. Florida State recorded its 20th shutout of the season and have won 10 in a row. It is the ninth time in program history that FSU will compete for a national title.

#3 OKLAHOMA SWEEPS #14 LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma Sooners will be making its 10th appearance in the Women’s College World Series after earning a sweep over #14 seed Louisiana-Lafayette. It marks the fifth time in the last six years the Sooners have qualified for OKC. The win was the 27th in a row for Oklahoma, two games away from tying the school record of 29 set in 2005. Oklahoma is 13-11 all-time now in Super Regional play with wins in 10 of its last 11 home Super Regional games.

#6 ALABAMA SWEEPS #11 WASHINGTON

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - #6 seed Alabama will be making its 11th trip to the Women’s College World Series after defeating #11 Washington 5-2 in game two of the NCAA Super Regional Saturday afternoon. The Crimson Tide have now won nine of the 12 Super Regional rounds it has played in, including eight of the nine played in Tuscaloosa. The series sweep over Washington is the seventh for Alabama in Super Regional play.

#10 LSU COMESBACK AGAINST #7 JAMES MADISON

HARRISONBURG, Va. - After dropping the series opener on Friday, #10 LSU faced the potential of their season coming to an end with one more loss. After earning a 2-0 shutout in game 2, game 3 would be for a ticket into the Women's College World Series. #7 James Madison put up a tough fight but LSU held on in game 3 to advance to the WCWS for the second consecutive season.

#2 MICHIGAN SWEEPS #15 MISSOURI

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The #2 seeded University of Michigan scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning after trailing 4-1, to earn a wild 5-4 comeback win against #15 Missouri. Junior leftfielder Kelly Christner took advantage of a wild pitch to the backstop to came in for the game-winner. With the win, the Wolverines advanced to the Women's College World Series for the 12th time in program history and third time in four seasons.

#4 AUBURN SWEEPS ARIZONA

AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn's Oklahoma City bound again, the Tigers swept Arizona 4-1 and 6-1 in the Super Regional on Sunday. The Tigers may be able to finish what they started last season this time with a better outcome. Arizona was one of two unseeded teams to make the Super Regionals but Auburns pitching was clicking all series.

#12 UCLA TAKES SERIES OVER #5 OREGON

EUGENE, Ore. - The #12 seeded UCLA Bruins needed to win two in a row to not go home and they did just that! In two games worth watching Sunday the Bruins came back to beat #5 seed Oregon, 2-1, in nine innings in game two forcing a game three. In the nightcap, UCLA would hold off Oregon again 2-1 to advance to the Women's College World Series for the 26th time in school history.
