IWFL Top 10 Power Rankings Week 7

Minnesota Took On Iowa This Weekend (MinnesotaVixen/Facebook)

Well I hate to tell you I told you so but… I told you so… That Washington Prodigy defense is the real deal and the Carolina Phoenix, the number one scoring offense in the Independent Women’s Football League, experience just how tough this past weekend. In a defensive battle the Carolina Phoenix pulled out an 8-3 victory on the road in Washington. Led by Quarterback Ebony Montgomery and a top 5 defense of their own, the Phoenix scored the only touchdown on the night and held the Prodigy to only three points. That was last weeks MyWSports Game of the Week and once again it proved to be a classic. In other action across the league, the Carson Bobcats have continued their undefeated run to start their inaugural season. The franchise now at 5-0 are on pace to match last years Utah Falconz in regular season wins. The Bobcats defeated the #10 North County Stars 26-0 and have only given up 88 points in five games. The Madison Blaze fell to the Nebraska Stampede in a rematch from week three when the Blaze defeated the Stampede 35-20. Nebraska has been on quite a roll recently, winners of their last three in a row they will play the Rocky Mountain ThunderKatz this weekend. The New York Sharks (5-0), Austin Yellow Jackets (3-0) and Woodland Wildcats (3-1) were all on byes this week so no big surprises on the schedule. The #1 Utah Falconz notched a forfeit win this weekend against the Sacramento Sirens.

The MyWSports Player of the Week goes to Kiersten Hansen of the Minnesota Vixen (5-0). The Vixen defeated the Iowa Crush last weekend 33-0 behind the performance of Hansen. Through seven weeks of the season Kiersten has 467 yards, 12 Touchdowns and has only thrown two interceptions. The Vixen are undefeated and looking to make a deep playoff run. The Vixen are on a well earned bye week this weekend and will use the time to prepare for the Detroit Pride in week 9.

The MyWSports Game of the Week is the Atlantic Conference battle between the #9 Washington Prodigy (3-2) and the #10 Montreal Blitz (5-2). The Prodigy have lost close games this season to some of the best teams in the IWFL including the New York Sharks and the Carolina Phoenix. If Washington wants to keep pace with that top tier there are going to need a big win. The same is true for Montreal with both of its losses coming against NY, the Blitz will need another big win to move them up in the standings this week. Either could be a dangerous playoff team, but a head to head win may be something both can benefit from later in the season.
