WFA Top 10 Power Rankings Week 6

DC Divas hold off Chicago Force (DCDivas/Facebook)

The Women’s Football Alliance has given us some amazing games in the first half of the year. Week 6 didn’t have as many fireworks, unless you were in Chicago. Of the 14 games, 12 games were victories of 20 points or more, and 8 were won by 50 or more. It really was no surprise in most games with the top teams rolling.

However, two games were of interest. Last week, we highlighted the Central Cal War Angels big win over the Sin City Trojans. Unfortunately, this week the Trojans took another tough loss. The Pacific Warriors continued their winning streak, winning 40-18. Pacific has remained undefeated since their first game, a week 2 loss to Central Cal. Pacific will get another shot at the War Angels in the final week of the season.

The second game of the week was our MyWSports Game of the Week, the DC Divas and the Chicago Force. As the third quarter ended, it looked as though the game was over with the Divas leading 41-21. However, the Force were not done yet. The Force got back to back rushing touchdowns to cut the score to 41-34. With under a minute to play, the Force got the ball back and began their drive to tie or win the game. Quick out passes and great runs by the Running Back Cassey Brick drove the Force down to the Divas 20 yard line with 16 seconds left and a 3rd down and 5 yards to go. On the next play, Chicago threw the ball to the sideline to a Wide Receiver, the ball was well over the receivers head, but the referee called a defensive holding. Chicago had another chance with a 1st and goal with 10 seconds to go. On the next play, Quarterback Rasan Gore dropped back to pass, she threw to the 4 yard line and Safi Mojidi of the Divas picked off the pass, sealing the deal for the Divas. The Divas, since their opening loss to the Dallas Elite, they have been on a roll, even though they have played some great teams in the Atlanta Phoenix and the Boston Renegades.

The Dallas Elite, with another convincing 70-0 win, move up to the #2 spot in our MyWSports Top Ten rankings. With the loss for the Chicago Force, DC, Portland, and Tampa Bay all move up in the rankings. Heading into week 7, this could be another tough week for the underdogs. Many of the top teams play teams that are at the bottom of the league. Chicago Force will look to get back on the winning track as they host the Indy Crash.

The MyWSports Player of the Week goes to the DC Divas Safi Mojidi. Mojidi had 2 interceptions, including the game winner for the Divas in Saturday’s 41-34 win over the Chicago Force. Mojidi has been a dominating Cornerback for the Divas all year.

The MyWSports Game of the Week to Watch is #8 Boston Renegades at #1 Pittsburgh Passion. This is a key matchup for both teams. The Passion are in their first year in the league and would benefit a great deal from a win over an established team like the Renegades. The Renegades have one loss on the year, a loss with 17 seconds to go to the DC Divas and would like to continue to win and get another shot at the Divas in week 10. The Renegades have a balanced attack between the Quarterback Cahill and the Running Backs Zelee and Asante. The Passion boast the same balance with Running Back Tara Catone and Quarterback Lisa Horton. I expect this to be a close game, but give the edge to the home team Passion.
