IWFL Top 10 Power Rankings Week 5
The New York Sharks Defeat the Carolina Queens (MyWSports/Erica Ayala)
The Independent Women’s Football League season is going by so quickly, I really don’t want it to end, but as we approach Week 6 in the IWFL some teams have distanced themselves in the conversation while others still leave some questions to be answered. In this week MyWSports Game of the Week the previously unbeaten Madison Blaze suffered their first loss on the season to the Minnesota Vixen. The Vixen defense was all over the field Saturday night shutting down a Blaze offense that came in outscoring opponents 63-20 in the first two games of the year. The Vixen have made serious improvements since last season and are sitting at 3-0 going into week 6.
The Carson Bobcats also had a phenomenal performance this past weekend, holding off the Phoenix Phantomz on the road. The Bobcats, an expansion team for the league this season have come to play in the IWFL, bolstering a 4-0 record, the offense has helped lead this team to such a promising start.
The Utah Falconz, Carolina Phoenix and New York Sharks all won in blowouts this weekend, coincidentally they all also notched defensive shut outs. The Falconz after losing to Pittsburgh last season know that they are capable of another shot at the title. No team has been able to challenge the Falconz attack and again their defense has only allowed 14 points all season. Carolina again dominated the first half of a game and cruised to another big win this time against the Knoxville Lightning. Quarterback Ebony Montgomery led the charge, connecting with wide receiver Mana Alison just seems to be a typical saying when watching a Phoenix game. Carolina is a strong team through and through; they will be on a bye this week. The New York Sharks are everything you want in a championship team, from the chemistry on and off the field you can tell they want to win a title bad and will work hard to make that happen. From gritty defensive wins to offensive explosions the Sharks have the attitude to bring back a title to the City that never sleeps. A big test this weekend lies ahead!
The MyWSports Player of the Week is Louise Bean of the Utah Falconz. Beans’ performance in the 76-0 win over the Sacramento Sirens now places her first in the IWFL in touchdowns with six and had yet to throw an interception this season. The Falconz are 3-0 and crushing opponents in the process, this week the Falconz are on a bye.
The MyWSports Game of the Week is the New York Sharks traveling to the Montreal Blitz. The two teams met in week two of the season with New York coming back against the Blitz and earning a 26-21 win over their division rival. The Sharks are 4-0 and are coming off of a big win at home. Montreal is 3-1 and looking to avenge the their only loss on the year this Saturday. Stay with MyWSports as we update you throughout the day Saturday on all your IWFL scores!
