Boston College Claims 6th Beanpot Title (MyWSports)

BOSTON – A day after the Boston College Men’s hockey team defeated Boston University in overtime to claim the Beanpot title, the women were up next. #1 BC holding the nations longest winning streak (29) and playing rival #5 Northeastern in the final would bring the same excitement right?

Well for one side, the Eagles exploded for five third period goals including a hat trick from Senior Dana Trivigno, which was her second-career hat trick and earned her tournament MVP honors. Katie Burt shut down the Huskies offense keeping them off the scoring chartin the 7-0 win and earning BC its sixth Beanpot title in school history.

"I was happy with how our team played. [Northeastern is] a good team over there. They have some great offense and put us in some positions defensively that we hadn't been in in a little while. So it was nice to see our D-zone do a good job. Overall, I thought it was a great game." BC head coach Katie Crowley said.

The top line did not explode like it did against Harvard in the first round, so Trivigno and her teammates picked it up and continued to play some amazing hockey. Makenna Newkirk, who loves to play at Walter Brown Arena, and Megan Keller each added three points (one goal, two assists apiece). In the shutout Katie Burt recorded her school-record 11th shutout this season to back the Eagles to the victory.

"We're able to play all six defenseman back there, and Katie [Burt] was unbelievable in these two Beanpot games. Our defense does get overlooked at times because we have a powerful offense. But all six defensemen were great and Katie made the saves we needed her to make. I thought she was phenomenal."

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, but the teams were held scoreless in the second period. The players were asked what coach had to say to them…

"'Let's go win a Beanpot.' (Katie Burt) You don't really have to say much more than that.(Dana Trivigno)"

In the third period, BC exploded for five goals – for the second time in two Beanpot games – to put an exclamation point on the tournament title. This is BC's second Beanpot title in the last three years. It's also the third time in women's Beanpot history that a team posted shutouts in both rounds on their way to the title.

The two teams meet again at 2pm in Chestnut Hill, MA Catch the game live on BCEAGLES.TV with MyWSports own Luis Sanchez… @Luis_MyW
