Toronto - The defending Clarkson Cup champions are out of the CWHL playoffs. The Boston Blades have struggled all season and this weekend the Toronto Furies put the nail in the coffin for Blades fans this year.

On Saturday night, The Furies used a three goal first period to propel themselves into the Clarkson Cup playoffs and a possible matchup with Les Canadiennes de Montreal. A win in either game of the weekend series gave the Furies a playoff birth and they wasted no time in clinching.

Toronto would get scores from four different players starting with Kori Cheverie, who started the rout with a score just 5:32 into the first period. Carolyne Prevost notched two goals in the 5-0 win for the Furies. Christina Kessler earned the shutout in the win stopping 17 shots against the last place Boston Blades

On Sunday, the Furies gave Kessler a rest and started Sonja van der Bliek in net. Boston would play a better game than they did on Saturday night but failed to convert on power play opportunities.

The Furies killed off six of seven penalties against the Blades, and got scores from five different players to lift them to a sweep over Boston. Cheverie again was the heart breaker for Blades fans; up 2-1 with Boston applying some pressure Natalie Spooner found Cheverie and Kori would do the rest.

Boston would make it interesting later in the second period when Megan Myers cut the deficit to one going into the third period. Toronto would hold off the Blades until Emily Fulton put it away for the Furies, Spooner would add an empty net goal to make it a 5-2 final.

Toronto Sweeps Boston 5-0, 5-2.
