NCAA Women’s Basketball Top 25 Weekend Recap
USC Athletics
This was a busy weekend in the Top 25, however, there were few upsets to be had. The three undefeated teams: UConn, South Carolina, and Texas stayed undefeated. Player of the weekend was Shakayla Thomas with a 32 point and 14 rebound effort in Florida State’s win over Georgia Tech.
St. John’s defeated #25 Seton Hall on Saturday, but this was no upset. St. John’s is 4-1 in the Big East, 13-3 overall and Danaejah Grant’s 29 points was too much for Seton Hall. Sunday USC knocked off UCLA. USC is 14-2 overall and the Pac-12 has great parity in the conference, every game is a good competitive game, USC was simply better this weekend.
Louisville should be ranked, they are 4-0 in the ACC, have won 9 straight, and recently beat Florida State and Virginia Tech. So the win over #18 Duke wasn’t a real surprise, however, to win by 17 was a bit of a surprise. California was bested by Utah, but California is trending in the wrong direction of late and I don’t see them staying in the top 25 after this weekend.
DePaul gave UConn and Notre Dame both a game this season, somehow though they lose games they shouldn’t. After losses to San Diego State University and Loyola (IL), DePaul is taking on a Jekyll and Hyde persona, you never know which team is going to step on the floor. Villanova got 25 pts from Caroline Coyer to beat the Blue Demons.
