No Live Coverage of WWC... Media Its Up To You

The NHL has informed me there will be no live stream for the Women's Winter Classic taking place at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Ma.

NHL Statement:

"After careful consideration, we have decided that we will not be able to go forward with a stream of the Outdoor Women’s Classic presented by Scotiabank this year. As this is the first time we have had a women’s game included in the Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic festivities, we want to ensure everything is executed properly. The limited amount of time that exists until the drop of the puck for the Outdoor Women’s Classic prevents us from doing that. "

So, for those of you who were not informed of my efforts to try to make this happen this is the back-story to what most people just sat and complained about. On Monday, the NHL announced as part of its Winter Classic festivities a professional women's hockey contest between the long existing Canadian Women's Hockey league and the newly formed National Women's Hockey League. As news broke, I wanted to know if there would be a live broadcast, at first because I wanted to call the game but then it became a topic of discussion on twitter, and I wanted answers. Recently, twitter has been home to back and forths about the leagues and some writers. I just wanted to get the truth. Will there be a stream? Will people in Canada be able to watch it? Fans, media and even players grew curious of what could happen. Once speculation began I started writing an email to the NHL...

My name is Luis Sanchez, I am the Founder of MyWSports an internet website that covers women's sports. Our mission at our network is to promote and help the growth of women's athletics by providing media coverage to leagues and events that may not have them. We have been informed that there will be no live stream of this event and feel that it would be a huge disservice to the fans world wide of women's hockey. We would like to provide our services in broadcasting an audio stream only of the upcoming Women's Winter Classic in Foxboro, Ma on December 31, 2015.

We are aware of pending ice conditions and the possibility of the game not being played, but we also understand the significance of this historic event. Fans not only of Boston and Montreal, but of the game of women's hockey, and hockey in general would benefit from hearing this game take place live. It would display commitment in promoting and growing the game of women's hockey while giving fans outside of the area the ability to hear the outcome of the exhibition. With the success of the CWHL and the growth of the NWHL this year, fans of women's hockey have grown. Providing a live stream of this event would only help the growth and future of both the leagues and the game.

We are not looking for financial compensation, we would provide this service as volunteers. We have extensive knowledge on both leagues, their players and the history behind women's hockey. We would really love to bring this game to the fans, and with your help we can do that. We understand its short notice but we look forward to hearing back from you no matter the decision.

I woke up Tuesday, and had a response from multiple people in the NHL public relations department. They were all willing to answer questions and help me with my personal request but also about them looking at all possibilities to make this stream possible. I wanted to do anything to get the game online for anyone anywhere to at the very least listen. Unfortunately our efforts were unsuccessful with the response we received today. Although I am disappointed as a fan, as a member of the media this only gives us an opportunity to showcase an event that deserves national/international coverage.

The Winter Classic is a great opportunity for the game of women's hockey to grow and with the massive hockey media presence, we can help give this event the exposure it is due. Imagine tomorrow when we all gather at this event, we are on periscope, snapchat, instagram and twitter…social media will be buzzing about the #WomensWinterClassic... sorry not going to use #WinterClassic! The fans will be relying on us to give them updates, photos, interviews whatever we can to create more attention of what is going on at Foxboro. Yes, I understand people who will not be there want to feel there, well what better way than following your favorite reporters/outlets as they bring you there own live play by play. I haven't always been a half full cup kind of guy but I do believe in progress and with a game actually happening, player’s excitement and the CWHL/NWHL getting along to make it happen... I am excited about next steps for women’s hockey. You can follow @MyWSports on Social Media for up to date videos, and tweets about #WomensWinterClassic
